The Trauma Responsive Continuum of Care (TRCC)™ is a dynamic, evidence-based framework that creates connection, catalyzes trust, and promotes safety.

This turnkey model:

  • Transforms entire systems away from the patterns of cumulative stress

  • Creates reconnection toward prevention, intervention and treatment

  • Socializes a trauma-informed culture of care for patients, staff, systems and community-at-large

REQUIRED from acs:

  • Level I and II trauma centers are required to have a structured approach to identify patients at high risk for mental health problems. For those individuals with mental health disorders, these centers must initiate treatment within their system during that trauma admission.  Level III trauma centers are required to have a means of referral should a mental illness risk be identified during inpatient admission.

  • Level I and II trauma centers should adopt a means of facilitating the transition of patients into the community using patient-centered strategies such as the following:

    •   Peer-to-peer mentoring

    •   A trauma survivors program

    •   Participation in the American Trauma Society's Trauma Survivors Network program

    •   Continuous case management that elicits and addresses patient concerns and links trauma center services with community care

New ACS standards require strategies to optimize patient recovery post-trauma. Additional guidelines released in January 2023 provide specific details around how to best care for patients at risk for mental health and substance use issues.
