WHY academia?
Many students entering universities have experienced trauma in their lives, such as physical or sexual abuse, neglect, loss of a loved one, or other adverse experiences. This can significantly impact student’s mental health, well-being, and academic performance. Trauma-informed care and programming creates a safe and supportive environment for all students. By educating faculty, staff, and students about trauma, its effects, and how to respond, education institutions can create a culture that actively works to prevent trauma, promote healing, and reduce the risk of re-traumatization.
